Pocket Universe
Have you ever looked up at the night sky, and wondered what exactly you were looking at? Pocket Universe is an easy-to-use app that will help you learn the names of constellations, bright stars, planets and more. You can literally hold up your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch in front of you, and the app will use the built-in compass to display the same view of the sky you see - but one that's complete with names and information.
Then explore the Solar System, and take virtual walks on the surface of the Moon and Mars, before playing a game to help you learn more about astronomy that you thought possible.

I love this App
Together with my kids we learn a lot about our night- and day-sky.
This app is more then a funny program, it's something like a wikipedia with a excellent view and very helpful and eady to ident stars and planet right from the present position.

Many features, but not smooth
This app used to be my favorite astronomy app. It is very complete with many features and tons of information. A very annoying problem though is that the motion view seems to have problems to locate north, and while moving slowly, the picture-scroll isn't smooth at all but very jumpy. So locating a star is almost impossible... Other astromomy apps, like pm planetarium, are much more accurate in this point and therefore more fun.

New version crashes immediately after launching
Deleting/reinstalling the app and rebooting the iPad doesn't help.

Exellent!
Best astrological education game on the app store. A must-buy game. This game has helped me to find out when and where I need to look through my telescope and also helped for my oral report on 17th January 2010. Although I do recormend to use a different infomational sorce, on wikipedia there's been alot of arguments whether or not it has correct information.
Apart from that, if your looking for astrological research application I recormend that you use this app, a great sorce of information. :-D

Great app but...
Doesn't show the right directions of the North etc, so I basically i can't use it.
But I think this will be fixed in an update and when it will be this app will get 5 stars ;-)

Auch für "Fortgeschrittene" ein erstaunliches App, welches einem die Wunder des Firmament Staunen macht. Besonders die sich selbstständig anhand des Kompass und Haltung des Gerät einstellende Sternenansicht begeistert! Weiter lässt sich die Stellung der vier Jupitermonde zu jeder Zeit darstellen und frei gewählt anschauen. Mondphase, Einstellung der gewünschten Magnitude, Suchfunktionen, sehr viele Objekte lassen sich anklicken und via Wickipedia bekommt man riesig viel Information zusätzlich aufs iphone. Sehr empfehlenswert!

Eines der besten Programme fürs 3GS
Zusammen mit GPS und Kompass perfekt aufs 3GS abgestimmt. Macht einfach Spass, damit den Sternenhimmel zu erkunden. Läuft schnell und stabil. Sehr empfehlenswert!!!

Augmented Reality
Mit dem 3G S Augmented Reality vom Feinsten: Man hält das iPhone in eine Richtung und die Anwendung überlagert die Sicht mit Informationen dazu, was man sieht - oder zeigt einem , wo man einen Himmelskörper suchen muss.

Nicht gut
Diese App ist nicht gut. Die Ausrichtung auf die Sterne ist nicht perfekt. Der Bildschirm zeigt tiefer als die Sterne wirklich sind. Da ist "Go sky watch" deutlich genauer und seit ein paar Tagen gibt es da auch die Kompass Unterstützung des 3 GS.

Mit den Kindern den Himmel erleben
Pocket Universe ist DIE Applikation, um den nächtlichen Himmel neu zu entdecken und den Kindern die Sterne ganz nahe zu bringen. Die Informationen sind kurz und mit einem Link auf Interneseiten versehen. Somit kann jede weitere beliebige Information über den Stern, das Sternenbild oder Messier Objekte angezeigt werden.
Ich habe noch das 3g iPhone und kann daher nicht auf den Kompass zurück greiffen. Zum Glück habe ich eine Armbanduhr mit Kompass. So ist die erste Ausrichtung auch ohne bekanntes Objekt am Himmel recht einfach.
Das Design der Applikation im LCARS Style freut mich besonders, mein ganzes iPhone hat diesen Style :-)
