Castro is a beautiful, full-featured podcast player that makes it easy to track and manage lots of podcasts at the same time. Only listen to the episodes you want and easily skip the rest, queue up hours of podcasts at a time and enjoy a seamless listening experience with carplay compatibility, chapter support, trim silence and much, much more!
HOW IT WORKS
1. New episodes land in the NEW tab. Read their descriptions, add episodes you like to your QUEUE, and clear the rest.
2. Press play to listen to episodes from your QUEUE in order. Queued episodes are downloaded automatically.
3. Re-order your QUEUE to plan your next few hours of listening at any time. Browse your LIBRARY to review the back catalogue, quickly access starred shows, and see your listening history.
Subscribing to a podcast is no longer a commitment to listen to every episode. You don’t have to manage a huge list of subscriptions or choose a few shows and miss the rest.

• Enhance Voices improves the listening experience for many podcasts and makes it easier to hear in loud environments. Under the hood, Enhance Voices applies a dynamic compressor to increase volume just where it’s needed.
• Sideloading: Import audio files directly, just by dropping them in iCloud Drive
• Mono-Mix — Mixes a stereo podcast to mono, which makes it easier to hear podcasts that pan some guests on left/right channels.

CASTRO PLUS SUBSCRIPTION TERMS
Castro Plus costs $18.99 per year. Prices are in US dollars and may vary in countries other than the US.
Castro Plus is charged to your iTunes Account at confirmation of purchase. It will renew on the day before the current subscription period ends. You can cancel auto-renewal any time from the Castro settings screen.
You can switch between the two subscription periods after you pick one, but your trial period will end immediately if you do, so it's best to wait till your free week is over before changing.
Subscription automatically renews unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24-hours before the end of the current period. Your account will be charged for renewal within 24-hours prior to the end of the current period. Subscriptions may be managed by the user and auto-renewal may be turned off by going to the user's Account Settings after purchase. Any unused portion of a free trial period, if offered, will be forfeited when the user purchases a subscription to that publication, where applicable.

DOWNLOAD STARRED EPISODES
There’s a new option in Download settings to keep Starred episodes downloaded on your device. Whether there’s episodes you keep coming back to or others you want to keep around for later without clogging up your Queue, this feature means you can have access to them instantly.
OTHER CHANGES
- Episodes you manually clear from the Queue get deleted immediately rather than sticking around for 1-7 days like episodes that have left the Queue because you played through to the end.
- Custom artwork loaded from YouTube channels now shows in the widgets and on the Lock Screen and Control Centre, as well as where it previously did on episode lists and the Now Playing screen in the app.
FIXES
- Sideloading from YouTube had broken again, this fixes it.
- Deselecting chapters could previously lead to a crash, not any more.
- Toggling download settings on an Apple Silicon Mac could previously lead to a crash, that’s fixed too.
- Episodes published with *.mpga file extensions won’t fail to download any more.
- Clearing old listened episodes shouldn’t slow down launch time any more.

Super but YouTube sideloads stopped working
The app is done very well and quite ondd es of the best. Recently sideloading YouTube videos stopped working but I guess you’re not to blame.

Fehlerhaft
Das Prinzip wäre genial, deshalb zwei Sterne, jedoch ist die App sehr fehlerhaft. Trotz mehrerer Meldungen und nach über einem halben Jahr bestehen die Fehler weiter. Watch Sync funktioniert nicht. Episoden werden irgendwo abgespielt, nur nicht da wo man war und dies auch nur wenn es korrekt synchronisiert. Abspielen über Bluetooth oder Airplay ist auch sehr unzuverlässig. Pausieren und Weiterspielen funktioniert meistens erst beim zweiten Mal.
Mangels Alternative blieb ich bis jetzt bei Castro. Nun hat jedoch Pocket Casts auch ein Queue-Prinzip und Apple Watch Sync funktioniert einwandfrei. Ich bin weg!

Gier frisst Hirn ...
Ich bin seit Version 1 Benutzer von Castro. Habe stets für alle Pro Features bezahlt und letzen Sommer auch das Subscription Abo geklickt.
Da mich die App seit ner Weile immer wieder genervt hat, habe ich das Abo auslaufen lassen.
Und jetzt sehe ich was aus dieser App geworden ist; Werbung an jeder Ecke und es verweigert mir alle Funktionen, die mit Kapiteln zu tun haben!
Die App ist total UNBRAUCHBAR ohne dieses teure Abo! 80% aller (heutzutage wichtigen) Funktionen sind gesperrt!
Ich bin NICHT bereit jährlich 20.- zu bezahlen um solche Abzocker-Praktiken zu unterstützen!
Nachtrag:
Was mich am meisten nervt, ist der eingebaute Automatismus, jede Audio-Datei sofort zu löschen sobald das Ende erreicht ist. Und zwar auch dann wenn ich extra vor dem Ende stoppe und es wage die nächste Episode zu starten.
Wenn ich offline draussen unterwegs bin und ev. nochmals ein Kapitel nachhören will, dann steh ich wortwörtlich im Wald!

Hope for an iPad app
Really good app, especially the drag and drop support is very handy to organize episodes. I wish there was an iPad version, I would have given 6 stars out of five if there was!

Importing podcasts isn’t available
Despite following all the guides and looking it up on the support website, I have not been able to find the ‘import podcast’ feature. It’s not in settings.
Will delete this app and go elsewhere.

This is the app I needed but didn't know I did. Well made app that does everything you need. i wish there was a way to change stream quality to save mobile data.

Updated: Down to 1 star, because 2 years after my first review nothing has changed! Well yes, actually it's just getting worse. Despite having paid for the "premium" version, most of the useful features aren't available unless you keep paying more and more! Also, There's no way to look on suggestions for a subject/name by just typing a word, you'll need to write the exact full name of the podcast (doesn't work for episodes neither) still no "mark as played" option, ad banners everywhere... In conclusion, it's useless.

Für die Apple Watch unbrauchbar
Auch ich habe mir viel erhofft von Castro als ideale App für meine Apple Watch. Leider habe ich mir nur einen grossen Frust geholt.
Obwohl als „synced“ bezeichnet, sind die Episoden oft nicht oder nicht vollständig synchronisiert. Wenn ich eine Episode unterbreche und später weiter hören will, so funktioniert das noch, aber die drauf folgende Episode beginnt dann, obwohl noch ungespielt, auch Mitten drin. Das wäre noch händelbar, wenn es wenigstens eine Möglichkeit gäbe an den Anfang zu skippen. Aber auch das haben die Entwickler nicht hingekriegt.

Great App Being Ruined
This was the perfect podcast app but recent changes focus on showing ads at the expense of user experience. I’ve gone from recommending it like I owned the company to moving my subscriptions to other apps so I can delete this one. Real shame.

Best podcast app - worth ten times the money
Best money I've ever spent on the App Store. This app modified my podcast consumption. I can listen and discover new podcasts more easily, and avoid ones I don't like or episodes that seem uninteresting.
App is beautiful and intuitive, absolutely love it!

Refresh
Sadly there is no way to manually refresh. I listen to weekly podcasts on my commute. Sometimes I have 1 or 2 episodes I still need to listen to, sometimes there are no new episodes*.
*Well not exactly. There is a new episode, right now, published 48 Minutes ago. I can see it right there on the website. But since apparently less than 10 people are subscribed on Castro, their central refresh server will only pull this feed every 2 hours.
Overall I like Castro. But I already have another good podcast app that I only had to pay once for (that has the exact same issue).
I get that ongoing development costs something, that servers cost something. But if you want me to give you money on an ongoing basis maybe make my pull to refresh actually do something.
And don’t get me wrong, if you don’t care to sometimes listen to your episodes shortly after release this is a very good podcast client with a well thought out design and a nice and simple UI.

Toughtfully crafted podcast app
Castro is a good example that the usefullness of an app cannot be expressed solely in a feature list. Its the only podcast app that makes sense. Its a very usefull app.
The missing fifth star is because of the new player view (version 3) which seems like a small step down to me. You had already nailed it in version 2.
I've been with castro since version 1 :-) Thank you for your work.

Ungewohntes Konzept
Ich habe vormals einen Haufen anderer Podcast-Clients genutzt. Da ich sehr viele Podcasts abonniere entstand immer nach kurzer Zeit eine endlose Liste an ungehörtes Folgen, die zum einen den Speicher belegte und sich zum anderen irgendwie belastend anfühlte.
Castro hat einen ungewöhnlichen Ansatz, der ein wenig einem Mail-Client angelehnt ist. Neue Folgen landen erstmal in der Inbox und können dann entweder in die Queue (zum baldigen Hören) geschoben werden oder direkt ins Archiv wandern. So behalte ich sehr viel besser die Kontrolle.
Auch ansonsten ist die App polished in vielen kleinen Details. (Kleine Animationen, Einsatz von Ebenen, Chapter-Support, ...)

Die Erlösung
Habe mich jahrelang mit der Apple Podcast App herumgeschlagen, die den Telefonspeicher unnötig voll machte und die immer wieder crashte. Ich nutze Castro jetzt seit ein paar Tagen und bin hochzufrieden. Das Qeue- und Inbox-System überzeugt mich, alles ist flüssig und sieht schick aus. Die App ist bisher jeden Franken wert.
